We’re looking for an experienced Lead Digital Designer and Developer to join our Manly team on a fixed term contract covering parental leave, starting mid-October 2026, with the possibility of extension. This is a senior, hands-on role that blends people leadership, brand governance, and real technical output. You’ll be managing and upskilling our AU and PH design and development team, gatekeeping brand and design quality across every client project, and still rolling up your sleeves to design and build websites yourself.
You’ll work closely with our Leadership team, Account Managers and the wider team, bring fresh thinking to how we deliver design and development work, and be the kind of person who can move between a team check-in and developing the backend of a website without missing a beat. There’s also potential for ongoing opportunities with us in a different capacity once the parental leave cover period ends.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Day-to-day management of our design and development team, including AU-based designers and developers and our PH-based development team
- Capacity planning, regular check-ins, and mentoring to support the team’s growth and wellbeing
- Acting as gatekeeper for our company brand, ensuring all design and development output for clients is on-brand and meets our quality standard
- Implementing new processes and workflows to improve efficiency and continue upskilling the team
- Leading client website projects from discovery through to delivery, including client-facing discovery meetings
- Designing and developing client websites, from custom design through to build, testing, and launch
- Creating landing page and website designs that are optimised for user experience and conversion
- Providing ongoing support and troubleshooting for existing client sites
- Staying on top of emerging trends and technologies in design and development, and bringing new ideas to the team
SKILLS
- Proven experience leading or mentoring a design and/or development team
- Strong hands-on design skills using Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, you can create polished, on-brand website and landing page designs, not just review them
- Solid front-end development skills (HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, JavaScript) with strong attention to semantic, responsive markup
- Experience building custom PHP templates on WordPress
- Familiarity with common platforms/page builders (e.g. Shopify, Webflow, Elementor, Bricks, etc.)
- Confident running client-facing discovery meetings and translating client goals into design and technical solutions
- Understanding of UX/UI principles and conversion-focused design
- Experience managing multiple projects and competing deadlines across a team
- Ability to set and enforce brand and quality standards across other people’s work, with clear, constructive feedback
- Comfortable troubleshooting live site issues and providing ongoing client support
- Genuine interest in staying current with design and development trends and tools
- Excellent communication skills, able to move fluidly between technical, creative and client conversations
