How to Set Up a New Google Ads Account

Step 1: Go to Google Ads

  1. Open your web browser and go to ads.google.com.
  2. Click “Start Now.”

Step 2: Enter Your Business Details

  1. Enter your business name and the website URL where you want to direct your ad traffic. If we are building you a custom landing page, we can update this once the account is created. 
  2. Click “Next.”

Step 3: Skip Unnecessary Setup Steps

Since we’re setting up a Google Ads account without an initial campaign, follow these steps carefully:

  1. Skip linking any existing accounts.
  2. Skip the campaign setup prompt.
  3. Skip selecting a campaign type.
  4. Exit the campaign creation process when prompted.

Step 4: Review Account Settings

Before finalising your account, double-check:

  • Billing details (ensure they are correct for your business)
  • Time zone (this affects ad scheduling)
  • Currency (important for budgeting and invoicing)
  • Country (must match your business location)
  • Payment profile (linked to your Google Ads billing)

Step 5: Add a Payment Method

  1. Choose your preferred payment method (credit card, bank transfer, etc.).
  2. Enter your billing information.

Step 6: Select Additional Options

  1. Choose whether you’d like to receive Google Ads specialist advice and promotional offers. 
  2. If applicable, apply any promotional codes for ad credits. 

Step 7: Finalise & Activate Your Account

  1. Click “Submit.”
  2. Congratulations! You’ve successfully created your Google Ads account.

From here, we will need to link your new Google Ads account, to our Online Projects master control account, so that our team can manage this on your behalf. Please watch the video below that goes through sharing access. So we can set up your first campaign, and start running ads!
